Linked theories

We followed Todrov theory of equilibrium, in the beginning Sydney was minding her own business on her phone like a typical teenager and all of a sudden someone take her. We also have Mulvey Theory of male gaze by Ms.Willows mies-en-scene her shirt is a V-Neck making the male gave attention to her chest.

Total film/Empire

I notice that total film use very bold fonts and can be seen as quite cluttered but in a good way. They use a lot of graphics on their magazine to attract the audience as well puff words like "FIRSR LOOK" and "WORL EXCLUSIVE". They use a film stripe type convention sometimes but it is mainly cover lines. They are very strict with colour scheme and they adjust it to what is being featured on the magazine. I also notice that the masthead is always behind the image, this make the character stand out more. I believe that Total Film audience is a lot younger than empire which is why they use a lot of graphics. I feel like Total film does feature a lot of horror films which is why we didn't use them for our trailer.

Empire has more of a dark look to it some of their from covers don't have a lot of text on it and some do. They use puff words like PLUS! and EXCLUSIVE To get the audience attention they also use incentives like FREE POSTER of people favourite films. Empire masthead is always centered and usually the bigger text on there following the main feature (the film name) they use some graphics but not as much as Total Film, i believe this could be because their target audience is slightly older than them. Empire colour scheme is usually red I believe this is because their masthead is red and white and this is convenient for them.

Exploring shot types and sizes

When filming we wanted to make sure we get a range of shots which is why we looked at existing trailers and used them as influences.

The Poster

When doing the poster I noticed that each poster had a date on when it's coming out so I added the date on it. I tried different things like using words instead of numbers making the lettering black/white to try fit the poster but it wasn't visible enough so I decided to make the date in numbers and it works a lot better. This is the final out come of the poster it links to the trailer as there are scene from the woods. I decided to use the dispersion effect because I feel it works well with out psychological horror trailer because the character is essentially loosing her mind which is why
the mind is getting separated from the body.

poster construction / Research

Poster research

When researching into posters I notice the colours are dark and have a bluish colour to it. The text is always entered at the top or bottom this is something that I made use to use at it a common convention to horror posters. In most go the posters the the font is Serif I believe this is because it has a tradition/old feel to it, there are also posters that use a bold font. For my poster I believe that using a tradition font will work the best however I will try different styles, a lot of the titles are white which is interesting.. most likely because its on a black background so I'll be aware of this when designing my poster. I liked the main person on the poster looking directly at the audience because it's engaging which is what I like about it. I like the disperse effect on the Dracula poster I thought it was effective. I have also noticed that the main character is on the poster which is why we took test shoots of the main character who was also the monster in the trailer. I research psychological posters as this is the genre we went for and it has a clear indication that it something to do with the mind and when thinking about my poster I wanted it to be obvious. In some of the posters theres a scene that looks like apart of the film this is showing clear links whilst other posters have a background that relates to the film which also shows a clear clear link.

Test shots (mag/poster) & mise-en-scene

These are our test shots for the poster and magazine. We had half the face normal and half the half with make up on it. This shows the both sides of the movie which gives the audiences an insight of what the main character will look like. It was also to show the characters role in the movie, that she has two sides to her. The shirt that I'm wearing is the same shirt that is used in the trailer this is to link the trailer, magazine and poster together.

The reason why we picked this shirt is because it can show the contrast of innocents and evil. The red can represent the evil in the character (Ms.Chapel) but is mainly covered by white, it shows that she wants people to see her fake innocents but her evil shows through.

We tried varies shoots like mid-shots, long-shots, High angled shots this was to see which worked well and which didn't. I tried different poses so that all shots wasn't the same and we felt that my head tilted gave off a more psycho look to my face which is why we picked this photo. We had my hair tied up and down to see which one looked the best, in the end we felt that my hair up looked better because I look scarier and more weird. We tried filters over the lights to change the lighting of the shot, we felt that the pink didn't give off a good effect for our poster so we tried the blue plastic which gave off an icey/cold look which we felt worked best.

The picture we decided on.
